day before

This is it...tomorrow is my big day! I am so ready. I know I am ready because I've been on a liquid diet since noon and made it through Easter dinner at my in-laws and was ok with not eating anything. Speaking of eating, I definately took advantage of my last weekend eating like a normal person!

Friday, I picked up my husband from the airport and we had mexican for dinner. I got my favorite, chicken chimichangas and enjoyed it very much. We contemplated ice cream but was too stuffed from dinner. Saturday lunch was Easter with my family. We had pick up foods, I didn't over do it but had a nice sampling of the desserts!

Saturday night was the highlight. We went out with my dearest friend, Kiley, and her husband Steven. We went to a winery and to a woodfire pizza place called Ancient Ovens. I picked this place for my "last supper" because it is all you can eat, delicious, and I know I won't want to go after my surgery. I can't see paying for all you can eat when I can only eat 3/4 of a cup. We had the best time. I am blessed to have such great friends who are so supportive and wanted to celebrate this journey with me.

I want to thank everyone for their encouragement, thoughts, prayers and concerns. I am nervous but have no doubt I'm making the right choice for me and my family!

Here are a few pics from our evening out. I hate full body shots but these are my before pics.
Can't wait to see the AFTER!

pre-op and less than a week away

Can you say overwhelmed??? I had my pre-op apointment today and registered at the hospital. I am all ready for Monday. It is so hard to believe I am so close to surgery!

First, I met with the nurse practitioner and with Dr. Stewart, nothing exciting there, just finalizing everything. We then had a class with the dietitian. There were 7 of us in there all ready for surgery. It was encouraging to see other's going through the same journey as myself, although, I was the youngest in the class! I also learned there is a support group that meets every month, I'm going to try to go to them and hopefully meet someone that can be my "sleeve buddy."

On to the diet...there was alot to take in but I think it is totally do-able. For the first 2 days I will be on a clear liquid diet, drinking up to 4 medicine cups of liquid an hour. Day 3 I will start full liquids, like protein shakes, liquid soups, jello, yogurt. I am required to get in 70 grams of protein a day and drink 64 ounces of liquid. She said it will be hard to do that at the beginning but wants us to advance to that as quickly as possible. My main source of protein will come from the protein shakes, but I can't add anything else to them, like fruit, right now. I bought a cherry liquid kind that resembles juice and a thicker chocolate milk-shake kind. I've never been a big fan of shakes but hopefully they will be tolerable. I will also start taking vitamins daily. Day 8 I will start soft foods, such as fish, tuna, refried beans, thicker soups, yogurt, anything I can smash with a fork. She said I will learn some things will settle better with me than others and things I liked before surgery I may not particularly like afterward. I went shopping this afternoon and have a few things to try out.

I then went to register at the hospital. Everyone was so encouraging. I work there so most of the people I enountered knew me and had nothing but positive things to say. I guess I came off as a little apprehensive but they all said they know I will do great and they are so excited for me. I had bloodwork done and a chest x-ray. I signed the consents and it's really going to happen!

Here's some of the things I bought today for after surgery. It doesn't look like much but I wont be able to eat much. Ready to lose this weight!!!

two weeks away

Here we are, TWO weeks away from surgery! I am so nervous/excited/anxious. There hasn't been much going on. I found out I do have gallstones, (gross) with the largest 9mm in size, so I will have my gallbladder removed at the same time. I am scheduled for my pre-op appointment and registration at the hospital on March 26th. I will meet with the dietitian, nurse practitioner and the surgeon that morning. They said I will be there most of the day. I have a feeling I will be on information over load at the end of it all!

I'm excited to learn what I'll need to be eating. I will be on a liquid diet for two weeks then advance to soft foods. The liquid diet alone will definately help me shed the pounds! I know I'll be needing alot of protein and I see alot of protein shakes in my future.

Today I am taking the kids to get Easter pictures taken. I look forward to the time where I will want to have my pictures made with them instead of asking the photographer to hide me in the back! I cannot tell you how excited I am to start living a different life style and have some confidence again. I keep looking at clothes and swim suits on Pinterest and get so excited that I will be able to wear cute clothes again!

More to come after my appointment...
